Why We Lowered Vitamin B6 in EverNatal & IronBiotic — A Transparent Update

At Naternal, your trust matters above all else. We believe in full transparency, science-first decisions, and a responsibility to prioritise your safety over marketing gains. That’s why I want to share the story behind a formula change: we’ve now reduced the Vitamin B6 levels in EverNatal and IronBiotic — not because we were forced to, but because we believe in staying ahead of potential risks.

What is Peripheral Neuropathy — and Why It’s Gaining Attention

Peripheral neuropathy refers to damage or dysfunction of the peripheral nerves — those outside the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms can include tingling, burning, numbness, “pins and needles,” or even weakness or pain in the hands, feet or extremities. Over time, if the cause isn’t corrected, these symptoms may worsen or become long-lasting.

In recent years, health regulators and the media in Australia have intensified scrutiny of high-dose Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) supplements, citing possible links to peripheral neuropathy.

  • The TGA acknowledges that adverse event reports from Australians have shown that peripheral neuropathy can occur at doses below 50 mg/day, especially when someone takes multiple products containing B6. (Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA))

  • In 2022, the TGA strengthened labelling rules, requiring that supplements with more than 10 mg/day of Vitamin B6 now carry a warning about peripheral neuropathy. (Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA))

  • More recently, in mid-2025, the ABC and other media outlets reported that reports of B6 toxicity are rising in Australia — and regulators are reviewing if stronger restrictions are needed. (ABC)

  • An example: since 2020, the TGA has received over 119 reports in Australia of nerve-damage cases linked to B6 supplements. (ABC)

  • Some regulatory proposals under consideration would make supplements with 50–200 mg/day of B6 available only via pharmacist consultation. (RACGP)

In short: the science is evolving. The line between “safe dose” and “too much” is getting finer. And given our mission, we chose to err on the side of caution.

Our Formulas Before — And Why They Were Already Conservative

Before this update:

  • EverNatal contained 5 mg B6 per capsule (still well under the prior TGA “warning threshold”).

  • IronBiotic contained 5 mg B6 per capsule

So to clarify: our old formulas were already well below the doses tied to regulatory warnings and classic toxicity cases. We never used extreme B6 levels. But because evidence is showing that even lower doses, especially combined across multiple supplements, might carry risk, we decided to proactively adjust and strengthen our formulas before any regulatory mandate forced our hand.

What Changed — How Our New Formulas Look Now

Here’s the update we’ve implemented — effective immediately in our batches:

  • EverNatal now contains 1 mg Vitamin B6 per capsule (down from 5 mg)

  • IronBiotic now contains 1.3 mg Vitamin B6 per capsule (down from 5 mg)

This change means we maintain effectiveness for B6 as a co-nutrient (for metabolic support, nervous system function, etc.), but we’ve drastically reduced the margin for risk — it’s now among the lowest safe levels in the market.

Why This Matters — For You, Our Customer

  • Peace of mind: You don’t need to look over your shoulder wondering if your daily vitamin is too much.

  • Less risk of accumulative overlap: Many people take multiple supplements (e.g. magnesium, multivitamin, B-complex). By lowering our B6, we reduce the chance you unknowingly exceed safe totals.

  • Ahead of regulation: Because of rising concern, it’s likely regulations will tighten further. By adjusting now, we offer stability and continuity without forced reformulations later.

  • Transparency & trust: It’s not just about a better label — it’s about showing you that we make safety-first decisions, even when no one’s watching.

Timeline Snapshot: TGA & B6 Regulation in Australia

Year / Date Key Regulatory Change or Reporting What It Means
2020 TGA releases safety advisory on B6 & neuropathy Raised attention to nerve-damage risk from supplements (Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA))
2022 TGA lowers threshold for warning label from >50 mg to >10 mg B6/day Greater transparency required across more supplements (Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA))
2023 (Mar) Deadline for new labelling compliance All existing products had to adhere to new warning labels by then (Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA))
Mid 2025 Media reportage & TGA interim proposals to reschedule high-dose B6 Increased public awareness and regulatory momentum (ABC)

As the landscape shifts, we’ll continue monitoring — and making adjustments for you long before the law requires it.

What You Should Know & Ask Yourself

  1. Check total B6 intake. If you’re taking multiple supplements, read labels — B6 is sometimes “hidden” in magnesium formulas or B-complex blends.

  2. Watch symptoms like tingling, numbness or burning in hands or feet — if they show up, pause supplementation and consult your clinician.

  3. Choose lowest effective dose. We no longer believe in “more is better” — it’s about what’s needed, safely.

  4. Trust your brand. We reformulated not to chase trends — but to protect you.

Thank you for trusting us with your health journey. If you have questions about your batch, dosage, or anything at all, please reach out. Transparency is the heart of Naternal — and your safety always comes first.

Because diagnostics may evolve, and regulations may change — we’ll only ever adjust further in pursuit of greater safety and clarity.
