Postnatal vitamins, formulated by a naturopath
Naternal was founded by Melanie Nolan, a qualified naturopath (BHSc) and mother of four. Every product in our postnatal range is a TGA-listed (AUST L) medicine, formulated against the Australian Nutrient Reference Values for breastfeeding.
What changes after birth
Some nutrient needs go up after birth, not down. If you're breastfeeding, your choline needs rise to 550mg a day, higher than in pregnancy. The NHMRC recommends a 150mcg iodine supplement for as long as you breastfeed. Iron is different. Your daily requirement can fall while breastfeeding, but blood loss at birth can leave your stores low. A ferritin test at your six-week check gives you a clear answer rather than a guess.
The range
EverNatal is our prenatal and postnatal multivitamin. It contains 550mg choline, iodine, selenium, methylfolate and active B vitamins. It supports breast milk production and lactation, healthy thyroid hormone production, and helps maintain nutrient levels while breastfeeding. If you took it in pregnancy, you can keep taking it after birth without switching.
IronBiotic provides 24mg elemental iron as Ferrochel® iron bisglycinate, with a probiotic. EverNatal is iron-free, so IronBiotic can be added if your levels call for it.
NeuroNatal DHA provides 125mg algae-based DHA.
MitoMag provides magnesium glycinate to support energy production and a healthy stress response.
MotherBloom is a four-strain probiotic for pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The Breastfeeding Bundle and Fourth Trimester Bundle combine these at a lower price.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep taking my prenatal after birth?
If it's EverNatal, yes. It's formulated for breastfeeding as well as pregnancy, with 550mg choline to meet the breastfeeding Adequate Intake. If you're using a different prenatal, check its choline and iodine levels against your breastfeeding needs.
How long should I take postnatal vitamins?
For as long as you're breastfeeding, and through recovery afterwards. Many women continue while planning another pregnancy.
Do I need iron after birth?
Not everyone does. Ask your GP or midwife for a ferritin test, particularly if you had significant blood loss at birth. Base your dose on your result.
Which nutrients matter most while breastfeeding?
Choline, iodine, vitamin B12, selenium and DHA all play a role in breastfeeding.
